Derby Cars - Building Process

Wheels-  The kit wheels have the following problems.  They are not concentric, they have molding flaws. Some of our Wheels have been modified.  Wheels are precision machined on a CNC lathe. The  OD of the wheel is lightly machined. This makes the OD of  the wheel concentric to the wheel bore and removes the mold mark on the wheel for a perfectly flat and concentric wheel. The inside of the wheel is machined to remove material thus creating the ultra light wheel  without modifying the outward appearance of the wheel..  Lighter wheels have less rotational mass and turn much easier than standard BSA wheels. Lighter wheels also allow you to put more weight to rear of car which which gives your car more potential energy to release as the car rolls down the track. Wheels are matched by mold number for a perfectly matched and balanced set of wheels. The wheel hubs are coned to reduce friction when wheel hub rubs against the car. All material is removed from inside the wheel and the wheels are  Stock Appearing from the outside. Wheel description and pictures.

Axels- (The biggest contributor to Friction) - We square the axles to a perfect 90°, horizontally and vertically. They are highly polished and true.  All the crimp marks are removed.  Axle description and pictures.

Weights- Our cars are stocked with only Tungsten Weights, see actual notation next to car listings. Why Tungsten?  Tungsten is 1.7 times heavier than lead, there are only a few other rare metals that are heavier and more costly.  This allows us to maximize weight to the designed areas of the car, to maximize kinetic energy and gravity. Weight description and pictures.

Center of Mass-  Our weights are perfectly ratio'd around the cars center of Mass, taking full advantage of Gravity

Paint - Our cars are professionally air brushed and clear coated.

Block - We use the Engineered Tools to ensure accurate axle positioning in the block and assure that it is square, perpendicular and parallel to the block and the opposite sides.  This allows axle holes that are  perpendicular to the centerline of the car and ensures parallelism in the axles front to rear.

Wheel Hubs - We use a square the hubs to the centerline of the wheel, to correct diameter irregularities and defect from the injection molding process of molding the wheel and to eliminate Mold Cavity to Cavity variation. This process allows the car to sit square with equal radius’s on all wheels.  The hubs are also coned to reduce body to hub friction.  This reduces body to hub contact by 90%

Lubricants - Our Axles and wheels have been lubricated with Nyoil and Graphite.
